Uniseed is delighted to announce that it has reached a significant milestone, with over $1 Billion now raised by Uniseed-funded start-ups affiliated with its five partner research organisations: CSIRO, The University of Queensland, University of Melbourne, University of Sydney and University of NSW.
Through building strong relationships with quality co-investors, Uniseed has been able to secure co-investment with at least one other investor in the majority of start-ups supported. One such relationship is Stoic VC, Uniseed’s Co-Investment Fund that has invested alongside Uniseed in 21 companies. Furthermore, in April this year, Uniseed announced a commitment of $75 million from UniSuper, whereby further support is provided to our partner’s innovative programs that will change the world for the better. Uniseed investment partners have included 190 high net worth investors, family offices or angel groups, 37 Australian Venture Capital or Superannuation Funds and 21 International Venture Funds or Corporate Investors.
Through Uniseed’s investment, over 60 start-up companies have been supported based on intellectual property developed at its five research partners or by research partner alumni, students and staff. Apart from co-investment, the companies have also been able to access over $200 million in commercial grants that are not directly available to universities. Some of this investment and grant funding has flowed back to Uniseed’s research partner laboratories through research contracts with the start-up companies, with Uniseed’s five partners collectively receiving more through research contracts from Uniseed companies than they have contributed to Uniseed. Nearly 1000 people have been employed through the support of Uniseed investee companies, with many of these employed by our research partners through research contracts with the companies. In addition, through this funding over 1,200 patents have been supported, with nearly 400 journal articles published from Uniseed-investee funded research.
